    A Beautiful Game Meets Beautiful Art

    There is nothing quite as stirring as a well executed tennis match between skilled opponents, it’s the kind of artistry that is reflected in the work of visual artist Brendan Murphy. For the first time ever the professional athlete turned artist is exhibiting his work in Toronto as part of the Rogers Cup. Brendan’s work carries a vibrant urgency reminiscent of Jean Michel Basquiat. He is able to capture the unique essence of the tennis stars depicted in his works through bold colour, movement and text.

    Hamilton Airport Falls Flat on Musician Proposal

    Last week the John C. Munro International Airport in Hamilton put a call out to area musicians to play a 35-90 minute set at the airport as part of a week of community outreach events. The catch is that the musicians are expected to play for "exposure" with no financial compensation.

    This new show reaches deep into Anishnaabe culture through art and artifacts. Familiar names like celebrated First Nations artist,  Norval Morrisseau and less well known artist like Toronto photographer Keesic Douglas share space in this first of it’s kind exhibit. If you like your art doused in politics, spirituality and solid storytelling this one is not to be missed.

    Toronto Burlesque Festival - Coco Framboise

    July 24th marked the start of the 7th annual Toronto Burlesque Festival. The festival ran from the 24th to the 27th and, in the true tradition of burlesque, there were elaborate costumes, story telling, lots of great dancing and a whole lot of humour.
