It’s Friday, and that means Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore shares his top picks for your arts and entertainment long weekend ahead.

HARBOURFRONT CENTRE: THE HOT AND SPICY FOOD FESTIVAL

This is it, the last hurrah of summer holidays for so many people. It's a Labor Day Weekend in the GTA, and musically, they are going big at the lakeside hub of Harbourfront Centre.

Matt Dusk continues to wow with his husky timbre, and he headlines Friday night festivities, taking the stage at 9:45pm as part of the 20th anniversary for the Hot and Spicy Food Festival at Harbourfront. Other headliners include Barbra Lica at 9pm. At 6:30pm Friday, it's Genevieve Marentette with George Koller and Eric St-Laurent. All free by the way. Also this weekend, Saturday, concerts from Denielle Bassels, Nathan Hiltz, The Melissa Lauren Trio and Dawn Tyler Watson. On Sunday, Avery Raquel, Luanda Jones, June Garber, and I (Mark WIgmore) will be there to introduce Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana at 5pm. www.harbourfrontcentre.com is the place to go to learn more. And it’s the Hot and Spicy Food festival after all, so expect demonstrations, rock star chefs and delicious food to eat this weekend as well.

THE ROM: OUT OF THE DEPTHS

It's your last chance to see the Blue Whales at The ROM. It's a fascinating story, a heartbreaking reality and an up-close look at the largest animal that has ever existed the earth. Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story is wrapping up at the Royal Ontario Museum this long weekend. It’s an impressive exhibit featuring one of the largest and most complete blue whale skeletons on the planet. ROM CEO Josh Basseches spoke to me earlier this year.
