It’s Friday and that means Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore shares his top picks for your arts and entertainment weekend ahead.

    TIFF DIGIPLAYSPACE

The award-winning digiPlaySpace exhibition returns to TIFF Bell Lightbox for nine weeks beginning Saturday, running through April 23rd. What is the Digi Play space? It’s really cool is what it is. The interactive playground at TIFF includes multi-player installations and learning-centric videogames, robotics, green screen escapades and hands-on activities from new media artists. 23 installations in all from eight countries. It’s a fun creative space that opens Saturday. Visit Tiff.net for details.

    BLOOR HOT DOCS CINEMA: KEDI

Cat lovers are often forgotten when it comes to the arts. Sure there’s ‘Puss in Boots’ cartoons and books, and ‘Cats’ on the Broadway stage, but what about film?

‘Kedi’ continues at the Bloor Hot Docs Theatre. The documentary uses cat’s-eye-view cinematography to tell the story of the felines who have roamed the streets of Istanbul Turkey for millennia. Not quite wildlife, not quite domesticated, the cats of this ancient city have a deep connection to the history and well being of its people. Seven furry friends are followed including Sari the Hustler, Psikopat the Psycho, Deniz the Social Butterfly and Duman the Gentleman. As they say in the film, Dogs believe humans are God, cats don’t, they know better. If you have a cat lover in your life, or a cat that you have loved, than Kedi looks like the film for you.
