    Where Are They Now?

    Sam Dickinson

This week’s featured artist is guitarist Sam Dickinson, who participated in the Youth Big Band program from 2007 to 2009 and the Jazzology program in 2012.

Born in Toronto, began playing guitar at the age of eight. He studied jazz during high school as part of the Humber College Community Music, followed by studies at New England Conservatory and Humber College.

    Richard Page

This week’s featured artist is saxophonist Richard Page, who participated in Jazzology in 2006.

After completing his studies at Mohawk College, Richard moved to Ottawa, where he currently resides. A busy performer and educator, he has had the opportunity to perform with many great artists including Bob Brookmeyer, Darcy Hepner, and Rick Wilkins. He has performed widely, including the Montreux and Vienne jazz festivals.

    Will Fisher

This week’s featured artist is drummer Will Fisher, who participated in our Jazzology program in 2009.

A native of Nova Scotia, Will made the move to Toronto to attend Humber College, where he received his Bachelor of Applied Music in Jazz Performance. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Louisville and was selected to be a member of the Jamey Aebersold International Masters Quartet. Studying drums and composition, Will received his Masters of Music in Jazz Performance before relocating back to Toronto.

    Anthony Szczachor

This week’s featured artist is drummer Anthony Szczachor, who was a member of the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band in 2007-8.

Born and raised in the east end of Toronto by a Chilean mother and Polish father, Anthony’s parents exposed him to a broad range of music at an early age and encouraged him to try different musical instruments, settling on the drums at the age of thirteen.  While music was a fun hobby, he began to get serious about pursuing music as a career as a result of three opportunities in his final year of high school: studying drumset with Steve Mancuso at the Humber College Community School, taking theory lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and performing as a member of the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band.

    Ben Hognestad

This week’s featured artist is pianist Ben Hognestad, who participated in our Jazzology program in 2013.

Born in Saskatchewan, Ben came to Toronto in 2009 to pursue a degree in jazz studies at the University of Toronto, where he studied with Phil Nimmons, Chase Sanborn, Gary Williamson, and Dave Young. He also had the opportunity to participate in an ensemble led by faculty member Andrew Downing, which has since developed into the working ensemble Canvas. The group is soon to release its first recording. Ben also recorded the album Reflections with the University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra, featuring compositions and solos by saxophonist Mike Murley.
